Security Minister James Brokenshire resigned on 7 July, saying his recovery from lung cancer treatment was “taking longer than anticipated.” Brokenshire’s boss, Home Secretary Priti Patel, took over the security minister’s brief. Former Northern Ireland Secretary James Brokenshire has died of lung cancer, at the age of 53.
