France marks 60 years of Algerian independence

France on Saturday commemorates 60 years since the signing of the Evian Accords that recognised independence for Algeria at an Élysée Palace ceremony. The bilateral relationship in the decades since has been marked by episodes of turbulence and rapprochement.
