When Iona, a 24-year-old student from Toulouse, casts her vote in this year's French presidential election, she won't be voting for the candidate of her choice but rather one chosen by Amir – a Moroccan immigrant whom she had never met until recently. They were put in touch by Alter-Votants, a service that allows French people who do not plan to vote to cast their ballots on behalf of foreigners living in France who would not normally get a say in the election because of their nationality.
