A BABY had her cheek torn off in a horror dog attack while enjoying her first family picnic at the beach. Little RosieMay Fitchett, 11 months, was in her aunt’s arms while petting two small dogs when a larger animal suddenly went for her. RosieMay Fitchett was mauled by a dog during a family picnic at the beach She needed two operations and spent her first birthday in hospital Her mum Sarah Warren rushed her to hospital covered in blood. The tot has since has several operations to rebuild her face and spent her first birthday in hospital in British Columbia, Canada. She was mauled when her family went to Nakusp beach for their first gathering after lockdown in July. They said they asked permission for the baby to pet a group of dogs that were all on leads. RosieMay was stroking the two smaller dogs when the third lunged at her face, tearing off part of her cheek. “We didn’t even have time to put her in her car seat, my mom just held her as we drove to the hospital,” Sarah told the local Revelstoke Review. RosieMay had to have a blood transfusion, more than 50 stitches and follow-up plastic surgery. She was later flown from Kelowna to BC Children’s Hospital in Vancouver for another operation. Further painful treatments were set to follow including vacuum therapy to shrink the wound and a skin graft after the re-attached cheek tissue died. DOG ‘COULD KILL A CHILD’ A GoFundMe page has so far raised more than 25,000 Canadian dollars. Organiser Deanne Nixon said the money will help pay for medical supplies, travel expenses and future treatment. She wrote on July 30: “Today, RosieMay turns the BIG #1… HAPPY BIRTHDAY SWEET GIRL! “This was not the way anyone wanted RosieMay to spend her 1st Birthday, however she did get a Ronald McDonald Happy Meal and birthday cake! “RosieMay has a lot of family and friends that wished they could have spent her special day with her.” Mum Sarah, who has three dogs of her own, said the animal that mauled RosieMay was put down. She said: “As sad as it is, if it does it once, it will do it again and next time it could be a kid’s life.” Last month we told how a gran, 72, died after she was savaged by her family’s 12st American bulldog while babysitting in Goodwick, Wales. Worldwide dog attacks are said to be behind 25,000 human deaths a year. BC1Sarah Warren said it was ‘super heartbreaking’ to see her daughter so badly wounded[/caption] We pay for your stories!
