Horror as postwoman, 32, dies after being stuck for three days in tower block lift on her round delivering mail

A POSTWOMAN tragically died after being stuck in a lift for three days. Mum-of-one Olga Leontyeva, 32, had been delivering mail on her rounds in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Eventually her lifeless corpse was found in the elevator stuck at the top floor of a nine-storey high rise completed in 2020.“No-one heard her shouts for help,” said a source. The lift’s alarm system did not work, it is understood.Initial reports say the lift stopped working during an electricity cut. However, according to other reports the lift had been suffering regular technical problems, and had not been properly registered. Breakdowns in the lift were “common”, according to Tashkent General Prosecutor’s Office. A video shows the postwoman entering the lift on 24 July on the ground floor shortly before the appalling accident.  She went up to the top floor with letters to deliver – but then the lift failed.Her worried relatives reported her missing on 26 July, and her body was found on 27 July following an intensive search. The woman had married in 2018 but later divorced.Her daughter, six, is being cared for by relatives. A criminal case has been launched and state investigators are examining all aspects of the incident, said the prosecutor’s office. An earlier check on the Chinese-manufactured lift had found it to be in working order, said a report, yet it had not been registered according to government regulations.
