Japan’s Newly Formed Island Now Visible From Space

Last month, an underwater volcano about 1 kilometer (0.6 miles) off the coast of Japan’s Iwo Jima Island started erupting. Within ten days, the debris had breached the surface of the Pacific Ocean. By early November, it had formed an island 100 meters in diameter and with a peak 20 meters (66 feet) above sea level.
