A POWERFUL earthquake rocked the centre of Melbourne today leaving houses shaking. The quake struck at an estimated magnitude of 4.5 Richter, around 14 miles north of the city. The 4.5 earthquake struck Melbourne at 11.40 pm The tremor was recorded around 11.40pm local time (14.40 BST), with its epicenter north of St Albans, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre. The Victoria State Emergency Service tweeted: “A magnitude-3.8 earthquake has been recorded with an epicentre near Sunbury, Victoria. “The earthquake occurred at 11.41pm, with widespread felt reports.
