Wilson says she was shocked to see the packages treated with disregard at the Whangarei CourierPost Depot. The woman claimed to have heard rumours of ill-treated post but was surprised to see it done so brazenly in the open. New Zealand Post is the country’s state-owned postage handler with more than 7,000 employees and contractors. She says it looked like they were being thrown from one bin to another to avoid the rain. Wilson says many weren’t being handled with care as their fragile stickers suggested they should be. Many who viewed the post shared their own mail horror stories. NZ Post chief operating officer Brendon Main told the NZ Herald was an “isolated event” and customers can still “absolutely” rely on the service. He said: “This is undoubtedly our busiest Christmas ever as far as the volume of packages that we’re working through but there is no excuse for what’s in the video.” The company has identified the employee who was filmed. “We have spoken to the person concerned and we’re working through that with them. We expect every package to be treated better than that.” ‘VERY SORRY’ A spokesperson from NZ Post told Yahoo News Australia the business was “very disappointed” to see this footage. “These are not the service standards we pride ourselves on, and we are very sorry for this isolated incident,” they said. “We know the vast majority of our people are working super hard across the country to get parcels delivered in time for Christmas and take real care and pride in what they do. “We’re really disappointed that the careless actions of this one individual could undermine the hard work of our 1000s of couriers who are doing fantastic work.” The reactions on social media were mixed, with some siding with the driver. “Man y’all try do this job at this time of year I bet you’ll struggle,” one person argued. “This is why you package stuff well,” another agreed. “Unless it has fragile on it they will throw stuff, it’s easier and quicker.” Another said the man should be more careful, adding there’s never an excuse to throw people’s packages.
