A PREMATURE baby that was declared “stillborn” by medics was miraculously found alive at the funeral home as it was being prepared for burial. The bizarre incident happened last week when the 18-year-old mum sought medical assistance in the municipality of Ariquemes in the Brazilian state Rondonia. According to her family, she was sent back home by the medics, who reportedly did not notice that she was pregnant. While at home, the pain started to increase and she reportedly delivered the baby without medical help. The baby was born in the seventh month of pregnancy and weighed 2lbs3 oz. It was declared stillborn by the doctors when they went to the hospital. The funeral director, who has not been named, was called to come to the hospital to take the baby’s body and prepare it for the funeral. A few hours later, while he was carrying out the procedures for the burial, he noticed that the baby sighed and that its heart was beating. He immediately took the baby to the hospital, and the newborn was admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for treatment. According to the outlet, the baby that was named Augustus, is responding well to treatment. His grandmother said: “Yesterday he was moving a lot. He moved his legs and arms a lot and his heart rate is great.” The family and the funeral home have filed a police report. The incident is being investigated by the Civil Police and the Public Ministry of Rondônia (MP-RO). “I was outraged because I didn’t see that effort of ‘let’s try to save this child’s life anyway,'” the grandmother added. However, the Ariquemes health department insists that the baby arrived dead at the health unit and when it was taken at the funeral home. A spokesperson for Ariquemes health department said: “For me, it’s a miracle. I saw the doctor talking and she was very clearly telling me that this baby was dead. “The funeral home came to get him and he was dead.
