The state-of-the-art aircraft, one of the world’s most advanced, is believed to remain in the sea. Hostile action is not thought to have been involved, and an investigation is likely to focus on potential technical or human error. The pilot was rescued on a Merlin search and rescue chopper and is safely onboard the aircraft carrier. A spokesperson for the Ministry of Defence said: “A British F35 pilot from HMS Queen Elizabeth ejected during routine flying operations in the Mediterranean this morning. “The pilot has been safely returned to the ship and an investigation has begun, so it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.” Most read in The Sun DEADLINE DAY Jack Grealish's girlfriend says 'It's Emily Atack or me' in showdown talks LOVE NEST Inside Love Island stars Chloe and Toby's incredible £1m Essex mansion BOMB SCARE 'Suspicious vehicle’ blown up in controlled explosion as town centre evacuated ERL OF ENGLAND Man Utd & Chelsea boost in Haaland chase as Madrid 'accept he'll go to Prem' MISS NAMED I regret my daughter’s name, it’s skanky and embarrassing when I say it out loud HAUL HEAVEN B&M store launches 50% off everything in massive closing down sale
