A PAL of Remi Lucidi has claimed the daredevil’s death was not accidental saying it was impossible for skilled climbers to fall. The French photographer, 30, who was known as Remi Enigma, fell 68 floors while attempting a stunt on a Hong Kong skyscraper on July 27. Remi Lucidi and ‘Dakamaru’ became friends via Instagram in 2020Instagram/@dakamaru10 The pair took part in a number of stunts togetherInstagram/@dakamaru10 Lucidi is thought to have become trapped outside the top floor penthouse of the 721ft Trengunter Tower while posing for photos. He was last seen knocking on the building’s windows calling a maid for help but he fell to his death. Lucidi’s friend, a fellow urban climber known as ‘Dakamaru’ – who did not want to reveal his real identity – said he had spoken with his pal just days before his death. They had met on Instagram in 2020 and had gone on to take part in climbs together and had plans to go to France and also climb the Great Pyramid in Egypt. Dakamaru told the Mirror: “When you reach a certain level of skill you don’t just slip and fall. It’s not possible. According to the witness, Remi was stuck outside of a window. “It must have been a place that he could not manoeuvre out of. He must have spent enough time there to get tired and not be able to keep to it any longer. “The witness claimed he’d been out on the window knocking. Probably on a thin edge outside. Not much space to move. Probably no way to sit, turn, crouch or change position in any way. “And no matter how physically fit you are, in such conditions you’re bound to get tired eventually.” He revealed that during their conversation Lucidi had been excited about climbing buildings in Hong Kong and had taken some “beautiful photos”. Dakamaru learned about his friend’s death by someone else in the community but said it wouldn’t stop him or others from undertaking such stunts. He added that despite the tragedy people who do these risky stunts are fully aware of the consequences. Lucidi and Dakamaru first met on Instagram in 2020 going on to be firm friends and eventually meeting up in summer 2021 and then again in December 2022, adding they were in constant contact. He described is pal as being “like family to me”. In an Instagram post of the pair together, Dakamaru said: “Steel towers are very much like friendships – we build them strong and tall. They may wobble occasionally, or seldom get visited by the builders, but with proper care and maintenance they’ll resist the wind, snow, and scorching sun, and might as well last for eternity.” In another post, he wrote: “Goodbye, my friend, goodbye. I hope you know how much I’ll miss you and how empty it is without you. Just wait for me in the next life. We will climb everything! R.I.P Remi Enigma, a mighty rooftopping god…” A security guard tried to stop Lucidi but the daredevil was already on his way to the top of the building. CCTV footage shows Lucidi taking the lift to the 49th floor before taking the stairs to the top. Security officers looking for Remi later found a hatch to the roof open. Police found the man’s camera at the scene which contained videos of his other risky stunts. While a worker who claimed he spoke to Lucidi said: “He told me he was going to hike a mountain when I asked where he was going. “He said he wanted to hike a lot when he was here.” Lucidi often shared nail-biting footage of his elaborate stunts with his Instagram followers. In chilling footage from 2019, Remi is seen filming himself walking around the top of a similar tower block in Hong Kong, just inches from the edge. He was also known for climbing on high-rise buildings across the world including in Bulgaria, Colombia, France, Dubai and Poland.
