A NUMBER of Vladimir Putin’s cronies have had their luxury yachts confiscated after they were slapped with sanctions over the invasion of Ukraine. Roman Abramovich, 55, had his assets frozen and blocked from visiting or doing business in Britain earlier this month. However, his 533ft £750m vessel named Eclipse remains unseized in Turkey. Billionaire oligarch Alisher Usmanov, has had his £600million luxury vessel seized by German officials. Uzbek-based Usmanov, who says he is “proud” to know Putin, was formally sanctioned by the UK on March 3.  His vast UK property portfolio includes a £73m mansion in Highgate, North London, two nearby worth at least £20m each, and a £30m property in Guildford, Surrey. His assets were frozen and he was hit with a travel ban due to his reported connection to Kremlin. The 280-foot Amore Vero, was held in the port of La Ciotat under the terms of the EU’s huge sanctions. The 61-year-old, whose nickname is “Darth Vader”, had also had the 443-foot long Crescent confiscated by Spanish authorities. Vladimir Strzhalkovsky’s superyacht has not been seized but is currently stuck in Norway because nobody will sell it fuel. The £58m Ragnar remains unseized as the former KGB agent who has been linked to the Russian President, was not on the EU sanctions list. Lastly, Dmitry Pumpyansky’s 240ft boat named Axioma was seized in Gibraltar after the businessman was hit with sanctions by the West. The Russian leader is also rumoured to be the owner of a luxury boat- the £500million megayacht Scheherazade which is currently docked in Marina di Carrara in western Italy. The 459ft six-deck yacht was trapped behind gates last week as Italian authorities came under huge pressure to seize it. It reportedly boasts a swimming pool that converts into a dance floor, gold-plated fixtures, two helicopter decks and several satellite domes. Earlier this month a growing number of Russian tycoons chose to move their luxury vessels to safe havens around the world after oligarchs were slapped with sanctions from the West. Data from Marine Traffic revealed that at least four yachts were cruising around the Seychelles, Montenegro and the Maldives. Alexei Mordashov and Andrey Kostin chose to travel to the Seychelles in their respective boats. Vagit Alekperov’s yacht sailed from Barcelona to Montenegro, as reported by Balkan Insight, despite the country’s ongoing attempts to keep billionaires from hiding assets on its shores.
