A TERRIFIED teenage girl who reported being gang-raped to police was then raped again by a cop, authorities say. It is alleged the four men raped her repeatedly before dropped her to the Pali police station in the village in the district of Uttar Pradesh (UP) on April 26. The girl’s aunt picked her up and looked after her, without informing her parents. The following day, the aunt was asked to return the teenager to the station to record her official statement with Pali station house officer Tilakdhari Saroj. He was arrested in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh over the alleged attack after attempting to flee, the Times of India reports. Saroj has been charged under the stringent POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act which was established in 2012. He could spend life in prison if convicted. Four of the six people named in the case have been arrested, including Saroj and the girl’s aunt. Investigators said the girl was initially abducted to stop her from testifying as an eyewitness in favour of her father in an old dispute. Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra slammed the Uttar Pradesh state government in a tweet. She said: “The gang-rape of a 13-year-old girl in Lalitpur and then her rape by the police in-charge when she went to file a complaint shows how genuine law and order reforms are being suppressed in the noise of ‘bulldozers’. ‘If police stations are not safe for women, then where will they go to take complaints?” Authorities have suspended 29 people – six sub-inspectors, six head constables, five women constables, 10 constables and two drivers – working at the Pali police station where the alleged rape took place.
