The UK government's Department for Science, Innovation and Technology has announced that it plans to impose a nighttime social media curfew for 16 and 17-year-olds, which will be turned on by default. The curfew will begin at midnight and last till 6 am local time. The government also plans to switch off features on social media apps that can “keep users scrolling for longer”, including videos that can automatically play one after another, along with personalised feeds that curate content for older teenagers. Similar to the nighttime social media curfew, these features will also be turned off by default.
