THE US blasted a weapons warehouse in Syria being used by Iran-backed militias. It comes amid fears Israel-Hamas war could engulf the whole Middle East region amid a number of attacks on bases housing US troops in the region in recent weeks. Multiple bombs were dropped during the blitz near Maysulun in Deir el-Zour that was known to be used by Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, US officials said. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights war monitor said the strike killed nine people affiliated with Iran-backed groups in Syria. A Pentagon spokesman told CNN: “This precision self-defense strike is a response to a series of attacks against US personnel in Iraq and Syria by IRGC-Quds Force affiliates. “The President has no higher priority than the safety of US personnel, and he directed today’s action to make clear that the United States will defend itself, its personnel, and its interests.” It is the second time in less than two weeks that the US has bombed facilities used by the militant groups, many operating under the umbrella of the Islamic Resistance in Iraq.
