The picture shows brightly coloured corals of varied shapes and sizes growing on the seafloor. This makes the animal particularly difficult to find as he is well camouflaged in the vegetation. The fish in the image is a Stonefish, they are masters of disguise and can effortlessly blend into their surroundings. This is what makes them so dangerous, as they can easily be mistaken for rocks or as part of the ocean floor. These creatures carry venom which is held in glands attached to spikes on their backs, but this is not how they capture their prey. They attack at speed and swallow their food whole, without the need to use the venom – which only exists to defend them from predators. Have you found the fascinating fish?
